Fast times and perhaps some record times are always expected on the final day of the LHSAA outdoor track & field state meet. And some key questions will be answered this time around.
The list of questions starts with this — can the Catholic High boys and Scotlandville girls repeat as Class 5A champions?
Field events start at 1:30 p.m., followed by running events at 3 p.m. at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
The meet will serve as the grand finale for a number of top performers, including a trio from Scotlandville.
The Scotlandville duo of LSU signee Makeriah Harris (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Sade Gray (100, 200 meters) will look to sweep their specialties again.
Broderick Davis, a Tennessee signee, has the top entry mark in the 110 hurdles and long jump to lead the Scotlandville boys. He has the No. 2 time in the 200 meters.
Catholic javelin specialist Paul Catalanatto is another LSU signee. He enters the meet with the nation’s best mark of 232 11¼ inches and also could be in line to challenge a 5A record.
In Class 4A, possibilities abound for West Feliciana junior Tristen Harris, who earlier this year leaped 21-2¼, which is better than the 33-year record set at the LHSAA state meet using a wind gauge.
In addition to seeking a wind-verified record jump, Harris also has the top 4A time in the 100 meters and is second to Brusly’s Aaryona Kinchen in the 200. Kinchen has the top girls 400 meters mark.
