Youth softball registration is open

Registration for youth summer softball at the Zachary Youth Park is underway.

Residents can sign up their children by visiting www.securepayment.link/cityofzacharyrecreation. Those interested in volunteering as a coach can offer their time through the website as well.

Registration will close April 26. The fee is $75.

Age groups include 8U for ages six to eight, 10U for ages nine to 10 and 13U for ages 11 to 13.

Practices and games will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the Zachary Youth Park Facebook page. An exact schedule will be set once teams are created.

Family Day in Baker

The City of Baker Recreation Administration is hosting a Family Day in the Park, from noon to 8 p.m., May 4, at BREC’s Jefferson Street Park, 3503 Jefferson St. Food trucks and music will be available. Activities include Baker Fire Department softball games, a basketball 3-on-3 contest, Baker School Challenge Kickball Tournament and City to City Riders Bike Ride. Baker golf tournament

The Baker Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Pilot and Lions clubs are hosting the Baker Community Charity Golf Tournament on May 6 at BREC Beaver Creek Golf Course, 1100 Plains-Port Hudson Road. Price is $100 a person or $400 a team for the four-person scramble. Cost includes green fees, practice site, lunch, refreshments and prizes. Mulligan package is $20.

History Festival set

The Pride-Chaneyville Branch Library is holding its 14th annual Community History Festival from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 27. The theme is "High School Reunion-Cheers to Every 10 Years."

The free event features country fun, food, games, crafts, music and entertainment, and various artists, craftsmen and vendors. The Louisiana Lagniappe Dulcimers and the Upbeats will provide music, and a cake walk will be held every hour.

  • Kids’ Orchestra invites children ages 5-11 to a program that combines library books with music education.   • Adults are invited at 5 p.m., May 22 to make lip gloss and perfume for Mother’s Day gifts. Attendees can also create a card.

Spring Garden workshop April 25

The Southern University Ag Center will hold its Spring Garden Workshop at 9 a.m. April 25 at the Maurice A. Edmond Livestock Arena Multi-Purpose Building, 14600 Scenic Highway, in Baton Rouge.

This year’s theme is “Earth Day, Herb Day: Down to Earth Herbs for Everyday Use.”

Topics covered during the workshop will include:

  • Herb propagation
  • Herbs for integrated pest management
  • Feeding herbs to livestock
  • Traditional uses of herbs and more
