Motorists travel along the 1000 block of the SE Evangeline Thruway Friday, October 20, 2017, in Lafayette, La.

Residents, property owners and business owners may view the latest designs and studies and ask questions about the proposed Interstate 49 Lafayette Connector at open house events and an online meeting Tuesday.

The I-49 Connector is a proposed 5.5-mile section of interstate that will run from Lafayette Regional Airport to Interstate 10. Part of the proposed freeway is elevated.

The two latest designs with small changes to the prior versions will be available at the meetings and are available online at lafayetteconnector.com.

The public is invited to open houses from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 30 at the main Lafayette Public Library, 301 W. Congress St., second floor conference room.

Several stations will be set up to update the public on different aspects of the project, Deidra Druilhet, public information officer, Louisiana Department of Transportation, said.

One station will deal with real estate, Druilhet said. The two Connector alternatives will be laid out on maps so citizens can see if their property may be affected by the interstate and ask questions of highway department staff.

Other stations, Druilhet said, will address traffic, noise and the environmental impact of the project. A video explaining the project also will be continuously playing.

To reach as many people as possible, the highway department also is offering a Zoom meeting from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday.

To join, visit https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81264409252?pwd=AXt33FW5dWzldM66cfhk4hrOx8H0B7.1 or dial 1-346-248-7799. The meeting ID is 812 6440 9252. The passcode is 657673.

Those participating via Zoom may ask questions via the chat box, Druilhet said.
