At their April 11 meeting, Rotarians received an update on the MoveBR project from Fred Raiford, director of Transportation and Drainage for East Baton Rouge Parish.
MoveBR is the most significant transportation infrastructure investment in the history of East Baton Rouge Parish, Raiford said. The half-cent sales tax, which excludes food and medications, was approved by voters in 2018 and will continue for 30 years.
The MoveBR Program will invest more than $1 billion to help reduce traffic congestion, build sidewalks and manage traffic signals throughout EBR Parish.
The program includes long-awaited repairs to roads in the Zachary area including McHugh, Port Hudson-Pride, Rollins and MacHost roads. The projects vary in scope, budget and timelines.
A gravel section of McHugh Road needs paving and drainage work. Port Hudson-Pride and MacHost roads will have shoulders added. Rollins Road will be completely reconstructed with bike lanes and sidewalks. Mount Pleasant Road will also see new walkways and crosswalks near the Zachary Youth Park.
All projects will not get done at the same time. For information on MoveBR, see movebr.brla.gov.
