A line of storms packing heavy rains, high winds and tornadoes pounded southeast Louisiana Wednesday, flooding New Orleans roads and tearing through Slidell. 

While the northshore took the brunt of wind damage from the storm front that crossed the state, other areas in the region recorded formidable rain totals and wind speeds of their own. 

Totals of more than 5 inches were recorded on most rain gauges across New Orleans, nearing those reached during some of the Crescent City's recent catastrophic flooding events, including in 2017 when 8 inches of rain fell in six hours. 

So who got the worst of it? Here are some of the highest rain totals and wind speeds recorded by the National Weather Service across southeast Louisiana:

  • Gentilly, New Orleans: 6.71 inches
  • Mid-City, New Orleans: 4.29 inches 
  • Leonidas, New Orleans: 6.11 inches*
  • New Orleans Lakefront Airport: 5.46 inches  
  • Louis Armstrong International Airport: 6.24 inches 
  • Kenner: 4.95 inches 
  • Marrero: 3.97 inches 
  • Belle Chasse: 2.58 inches 
  • Chalmette: 3.63 inches 
  • Laplace: 9.89 inches 
  • Mandeville: 6.92 inches 
  • Big Branch Marsh: 7.83 inches 
  • Slidell: 6.63 inches 
  • Hammond 3.49 inches 
  • Sorrento: 6.87 inches 
  • Thibodaux: 5.43 inches 
  • Lutcher: 7.64 inches 
  • Houma: 2.69 inches 
  • Bayou Manchac: 2.21 inches 
  • Baton Rouge: 2.04 inches

*The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board collects its own rainfall totals, some of which recorded nearly 7 inches in New Orleans East and more than 8 inches in Leonidas.

  • West Lake Forest, New Orleans: 71 mph at 9:20 a.m. 
  • Louis Armstrong International Airport: 51 mph at 6:49 a.m. 
  • Lake Pontchartrain Causeway: 78 mph at 9:51 a.m. 
  • Slidell: 60 mph at 9:55 a.m.*
  • Mandeville: 40 mph at 9:51 a.m. 
  • Waggaman: 49 mph at 9:19 a.m. 
  • Gretna: 31 mph at 9:25 a.m. 
  • Hammond: 47 mph at 9:25 a.m. 
  • Bell Chasse: 49 mph at 8:42 a.m. 
  • LSU Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge: 42 mph at 8:40 a.m. 
  • Baton Rouge Airport: 45 mph at 8:36 a.m. 
  • New Roads: 62 mph at 8:15 a.m. 

*The National Weather Service has yet to release its final report on a tornado that touched down in Slidell on Wednesday, but forecasters said they believe it was "at least" an E-F1, indicating wind speeds of 86 to 110 mph.
