Donate your dresses
The Slaughter Civic Club is holding a dress drive, asking people to donate formal dresses for bridesmaids, prom or homecoming. The dresses will be sold at the Back to School Bash: long for $50 and short for $25. Money goes toward the beautification of the town, festivals and other community activities. Dresses can be dropped off at Town Hall on May 20 and June 11 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. or contact Delaney at (225) 301-5734 or Adele at (225) 931-2470 for a special drop off.
Nominate businesses that look great
Zachary needs people to nominate businesses for the Zachary Beautification Business Awards.
The committee aims to acknowledge business owners within the city who have demonstrated efforts to maintain, repair, enhance and elevate the visual appeal of their properties. Downtown Live at the Gazebo will feature Pants Party on June 7. The free event is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Virginia Street in Zachary.
Family Day in Baker
The city of Baker Recreation Administration is hosting a Family Day in the Park, from noon to 8 p.m. May 4 at BREC’s Jefferson Street Park, 3503 Jefferson St. Food trucks and music will be available. Activities include Baker Fire Department softball games, a basketball 3-on-3 contest, Baker School Challenge Kickball Tournament and City to City Riders Bike Ride. Baker golf tournament
The Baker Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Pilot and Lions clubs are hosting the Baker Community Charity Golf Tournament on May 6 at BREC Beaver Creek Golf Course, 1100 Plains-Port Hudson Road. Price is $100 a person or $400 a team for the four-person scramble. Cost includes green fees, practice site, lunch, refreshments and prizes. Mulligan package is $20.

- Kids’ Orchestra invites children ages 5-11 to a program that combines library books with music education. Each month, children will explore a theme as they learn about an instrument, sing a song, explore a dance, and play a game — all inspired by a book in the East Baton Rouge Parish Library collection. - Teens interested in architecture and engineering can create something cool out of cardboard with Makedo cardboard construction tools at 4 p.m., May 16.

- May 4 is International Firefighters’ Day. A firefighter from Central Fire Department will teach fire safety tips, and children will learn about cooking safety and review the importance of working smoke alarms and having an escape plan at 2 p.m. May 4 under the outside pavilion at the Greenwell Springs Branch.
