A man who robbed a bank on Bluebonnet Boulevard later led police on a chase on Interstate 10 that ended in a crash, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said.

Jonathan Lanaute, 39, entered United Community Bank, 9817 Bluebonnet Blvd., at about 9 a.m. and gave the teller a note demanding money.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and then Lanaute fled the scene. Sheriff's deputies later located Lanaute's vehicle on Highland Road at about 10 a.m. and followed him without his knowing.

When the deputies tried to initiate a stop, "the suspect attempted to flee and hit a vehicle while on I-10 near Perkins," the Sheriff's Office said. The driver struck by Lanaute's car sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Lanaute then ran from his vehicle and, after a brief foot chase, deputies arrested him at about 10:20 a.m., with the assistance of the Baton Rouge Police.

He faces counts of first-degree robbery and aggravated flight from an officer for the bank robbery and pursuit. Other counts against him include armed robbery in connection with a carjacking Thursday night on Fountain Avenue where someone stole a food delivery person's vehicle.

Other charges are pending, according to the Sheriff's Office.
