LSU’s Haleigh Bryant may be about to add yet another major award to her amazing 2024 season.
Bryant, the NCAA all-around champion and a 27-time All-American, is one of four finalists for the Honda Award, given annually to the nation’s top gymnast regardless of class.
Bryant, who led the Tigers to their first-ever NCAA team title Saturday, is joined by Jordan Bowers of Oklahoma, Jade Carey of Oregon State and Leanne Wong of Florida.
Bryant already has won the 2024 AAI award, given to the nation’s top gymnast. In addition to winning the NCAA all-around championship, she led the nation in all-around and vault scoring this season. Bryant had eight perfect 10s in 2024, completing both the gym slam and season slam of 10.0 scores.
The winner of the Honda Award for gymnastics joins the top female athletes in 11 other sports as finalists to be named Collegiate Woman of the Year and winner of the Honda Cup. That award will be presented June 24 in New York City.
Title celebration set
A championship celebration for the Tigers is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on campus. A parade route similar to the one followed by the women’s basketball team after its NCAA title last April will lead to a celebration inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center starting at 7 p.m.
There is no admission charge.
