A Tickfaw man has been convicted in one of the largest fentanyl seizures in Livingston Parish history, the parish Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
A Livingston Parish jury found Devonte Skinner, 32, guilty on charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
In a Facebook post Tuesday morning, the Sheriff's Office said it began an investigation in April 2023 after receiving a tip about Skinner. Detectives executed a search warrant at his residence and discovered over 2 pounds of powdered fentanyl, more than 3,700 pressed fentanyl pills, about 70 grams of methamphetamine and other drug packaging materials.
Detectives also found over 4 pounds of vacuum-packaged marijuana in Skinner's vehicle, the Sheriff's Office said.
"At the time of the arrest, it was the largest fentanyl seizure in Livingston Parish," according to 21st Judicial District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux.
The jury returned its verdict in less than 30 minutes.
Judge Charlotte Foster remanded Skinner to jail with no bond. His sentencing is set for May 22.
Perrilloux said his office will continue to “devote maximum efforts to make certain that those who are distributing fentanyl will be removed from our communities and locked up for as much time as possible.”
