Community Sisterhood plans summer STEM camp

Community Sisterhood is hosting its 2024 Summer STEM camp June 17-21.

The camp costs $90 and will focus on robotics, coding and experiments.

GOP Roundtable May 16

Cory Dennis, Louisiana Republican Party executive director, is the speaker for the May 16 Ascension GOP Roundtable, sponsored by Ascension Republican Women.

The Roundtable starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Clarion Inn, 1500 W. La. 30, in Gonzales. Doors open at 11:15 a.m.

Dennis, a 2015 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, earned his degree in political science and international relations. For more than two years, Dennis worked with Attorney General Jeff Landry as press secretary. He then served as campaign manager for Jeff Landry’s successful run for governor.

Voices of Resilience

Every day, we hear news about how opioids affect the community we live in. The Louisiana Department of Health hopes to spread hope through its Voices of Resilience program. On Thursday, May 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the library in Gonzales, hear from survivors of overdose, those in recovery and health care providers who work to prevent prescription drug misuse and promote safe medication practices in our homes and communities. Trudy Wickham, opioid prevention outreach coordinator with the Department of Health, will lead the discussion.

Donaldsonville events

Mark your calendar for some event dates coming to Donaldsonville in the next few months.

  • A car show is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 at Louisiana Square. A band is set to perform.
  • Crescent Park will feature a Wing Fest from noon to 9 p.m. June 1 with a band, and the city's Fireworks on the River will fill the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 3.
  • Mimosas on the Mississippi is planned for the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 4.

All are weather permitting.

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m.to 11 p.m. May 26 to serve jambalaya at the Jambalaya Festival in Gonzales.
