Northwestern Middle School teacher Tristan George has won the Capital Area United Way "Pass the Torch Award."
The award acknowledges one young adult, age 18-24, who exemplifies the CAUW Brotherhood Sisterhood Awards mission, which honors people committed to combating bias, bigotry and racism across ethnic, gender and religious boundaries within the community.
George will be honored at the Capital Area United Way Brotherhood Sisterhood banquet April 16 in Baton Rouge. The annual banquet honors local community members who are recognized for actively serving the community, leading and inspiring others, breaking personal barriers, and leading exemplary lives, all toward the goal of equality and togetherness, the release said.
George is an eighth-grade English teacher and was selected last year as a Louisiana Department of Education New Teacher of the Year finalist.
