Once a strength, the New Orleans Saints run defense has started to fall off in recent years.
With their sixth round pick, the Saints may have beefed up their defensive interior.
The Saints selected Northern Iowa defensive tackle Khristian Boyd with the No. 199 overall pick, adding a 6-2, 325-pound run stuffer to their defensive line.
Boyd is old for an NFL rookie — he will turn 25 next February — and he spent six seasons at Northern Iowa. He was a starter for the last four of those seasons, recording 22 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks in his college career.
He should help offset the loss of veteran Malcolm Roach in free agency.
