A Livingston Parish sheriff's deputy has been arrested for striking an inmate at the Livingston Parish Detention Center, the Sheriff's Office said Monday.

Michael Williams, 40, of Denham Springs, was arrested after the Sheriff's Office investigated a grievance from an inmate claiming they were struck by a deputy, according to Sheriff Jason Ard.

Williams' employment with the Sheriff's Office was terminated and he was booked on counts of simple battery and malfeasance in office. He was hired by the Sheriff's Office in January 2023.

"We take every complaint seriously," Ard said. "This is an example of why we have our grievance system in place."
