A Baton Rouge man who killed a woman when he crashed into her car while driving at more than 100 mph pleaded guilty to manslaughter and aggravated flight from an officer on Tuesday, court records show.

The car crash happened as he fled from police.

Judge Hines Myers of the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and set the sentencing date for July 8.

On the night of April 30, 2022, a Baton Rouge police officer spotted a driver, later identified as Darrien Rogers, going west in the eastbound lanes of Choctaw Drive in a Dodge Charger, barely missing several cars, police said.

The officer tried to stop the car, but Rogers kept going, running through red lights. He drove the Charger south on Scenic Highway and tried to go through a red light at the Fuqua Street intersection, but crashed into the side of a Chevrolet Cruz, police said.

The driver of the Chevy, Sherrell Weston, 49, died at the scene. Rogers was arrested and booked on counts of manslaughter, aggravated flight from an officer, running a red light and driving on the wrong side of the highway.
