Lane to hold free breastfeeding class
Lane will be holding a free breastfeeding class from 10 a.m. to noon, May 18 in the Board Conference Room at Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., Zachary.
Kiara Carnes with Baby Lane Labor & Delivery Unit will the discuss the ABCs of breastfeeding, including:
• Appeal of breastfeeding and why it’s important
• Best breastfeeding positions
• Common challenges with breastfeeding
Carnes will be available to answer questions about breastfeeding.

Picnic planned on Solitude Road
A Community Give-Back Picnic will be held May 25 at Jungle Inn, 7765 Solitude Road, St. Francisville. Entry and food are free. Adults will have smoked chicken and red beans. Kids will have hot dogs. Bring tents, lawn chairs, cooler and grills.
Donate formal dresses
The Slaughter Civic Club is holding a dress drive, asking people to donate formal dresses for bridesmaids, prom or homecoming. The dresses will be sold at the Back to School Bash: long for $50 and short for $25. Money goes toward the beautification of the town, festivals and other community activities. Dresses can be dropped off at Town Hall on May 20 and June 11 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. or contact Delaney at (225) 301-5734 or Adele at (225) 931-2470 for a special drop-off.
Walker Percy Weekend tickets on sale
At the ninth annual Walker Percy Weekend in St. Francisville, May 31-June 1, presenters and panelists will explore how Percy, and the writers he inspired, explore where Southern fiction has been and where it is going.
