Amite Art council to host summer art camps

The Amite Art Council will host two summer art camps.

The Visual Art Camp will be June 3-7. It will be taught by Marita Gentry. Camp times will be 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp is limited to 20 students.

Dates for the camp are June 3-7. There will be a display of the students’ work at noon on the June 7.

The drama camp will be taught by Brent Goodrich of the New Octavians, in Hammond. Camp times are 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp is limited to 15 students. Dates for the camp are June 24-28. There will be a short performance at noon on the June 28.

Both camps will be held in the Amite Community Center. Students are encouraged to bring a snack and a drink each day of the camp.

There will be a $10 registration fee for each camp. Registration fees need to be paid at Amite City Hall. Registration opened May 7 for both camps.

Meet the new Livingston Parish superintendent

New Livingston Parish Schools Superintendent Jody Purvis is sitting down with parents for a series of meetings.

The programs are set from 6:45 a.m. to 8 a.m.:

  • Thursday, May 9, Navarre's Bakery, Springfield.

Free collage art class offered

Celebrate “World Collage Day” at the Arts Council of Livingston Parish with Kathy Bourgeois and Mary C. Felder.

Create an abstract collage from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 11. The class is for ages 12 and older at 133 North Hummell St., Denham Springs. Supplies will be provided and registration is required by calling (225) 664-1168 or visiting www.artslivingston.org.

Sporting clay fundraiser Saturday

A Sporting Clay Shoot is set for Saturday to raise money for the family of Tiger Holt, a shooting sports enthusiast, 4-H supporter and lifelong Louisiana hunter who died April 11.

The fundraiser starts with registration at 8 a.m. at Riverside Sporting Clays, 52400 La. 16, Denham Springs. Cost is $150 per individual or $600 for a four-person team.

Mammograms coming to Livingston Parish

Woman’s Hospital is offering 3D mammograms this month at its mobile mammography coach. Physician’s orders are required and appointments are encouraged.

The mammography coach is coming:

Pets looking for homes

The Denham Springs Animal Shelter is looking for people to foster cats and dogs.

The no-kill shelter, at 600 Bowman St., Denham Springs, also encourages residents to consider adopting a pet; the fee is $60.

Farmers Market

The Four Seasons Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday at the city parking lot at Hummel Street and Railroad Avenue. Fresh vegetables and fruits are on sale from vendors.
