All three branches of the Audubon Regional Library celebrated Free Comic Book Day May 4.

The event was held from 9.m. until 1 p.m. in Jackson and Clinton and 10.am. until noon in Greensburg.

Four special comics were available to children, teens and adults. "The Loud House" by Nickelodeon and the "10th Anniversary Extravaganza by Boom Box" by GGC, both rated A for all ages, contained multiple stories inside. Another book given out was "Monster High" by IDW, which was rated T for Teen/13+. The final book offered was The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics" by Gemstone Publishing.

Comics have been around “in one form or another … since the 1800s,” according to Overstreet, and there are comics “for just about every taste.” Nowadays besides the regular comic books, more and more comic-book-styled or graphic art styled books have grown in popularity, according to a library spokesperson.

In addition to the free comics, children could design and color a superhero’s outfit and complete other drawing/coloring activities at the crafts table. A backdrop for posing as superheroes, or comic book characters and was also on hand. Props included masks, a frame and more.
