More than 200 pro-Palestinian demonstrators have set up camp on Tulane University's main campus off St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans.
Tents and umbrellas line the sidewalks under oak trees, where on Monday night the protestors and New Orleans police were in a mostly peaceful standoff for hours after six people were arrested earlier in the day when demonstrators first attempted to pitch tents and Tulane officers intervened.
Police and demonstrators remained on campus overnight.
By Tuesday morning, the encampment had grown and signs were placed around it with phrases including "Free Gaza" and "Anti-Zionism is not Anti-Semitism." Tulane has closed three buildings and a portion of the Uptown campus.
