Andrus Peat's nine-year run with the New Orleans Saints is almost officially over.

According to an NFL Media report, Peat is signing a free agent contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. It is not clear what the terms of the contract are.

Peat's departure in free agency seemed like a formality when the Saints did not sign him to a new contract before the start of the new league year in March, which meant New Orleans would have to carry a $13.6 million dead cap hit this season.

But as free agency wore on and Peat did not find a new home, it at least seemed like a return could  be on the table considering the state of the Saints offensive line.

Peat enjoyed a solid season while starting the majority of the Saints games last year at left tackle as a fill-in for the benched Trevor Penning. Though the Saints fortified the tackle position through the draft by selecting Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga 14th overall, they still have question marks at the position.

Penning has struggled in his two professional seasons as he's navigated injury and inconsistent play. It's also possible longtime right tackle Ryan Ramczyk never plays another down of professional football because of a knee injury that has bothered him for years.

The Saints selected Peat in the first round of the 2015 draft with the hopes that he'd be their left tackle of the future. Though Peat often filled in on the outside, he spent the majority of his Saints tenure as the team's starting left guard.

Peat played in 111 games with 102 starts while with the Saints, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
