The Daily Iberian newspaper in New Iberia has been sold to group that has recently bought other newspapers in Louisiana, including the American Press in Lake Charles.
Carpenter Media Group announced the purchase of the 132-year-old newspaper, buying it from Arizona-based Wick Communications in a deal that became effective Wednesday, the Daily Iberian reported on Wednesday.
Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
CMG’s subsidiary, New Iberia Newsmedia, is the official owner and acquired the newspaper and all affiliate publications, including Acadiana Lifestyle.
Carpenter Newsmedia, led by veteran newspaper publisher Todd Carpenter, also owns publications in Bogalusa, LaPlace, Leesville and DeRidder as well as Orange and Port Arthur, Texas. Other properties are in Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Tim Prince is president and CEO. Ron Prince will serve as regional publisher.
Wick named Ken Harty as publisher of the Daily Iberian almost a year ago in a dual role along with his position as publisher of the Daily Journal Media in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
“We have known the Wick family and the New Iberia community through that friendship for many years,” Carpenter said. “We take very seriously our responsibilities to the newspaper, its staff and the community and we will work hard to meet those obligations and produce a newspaper that sets a high bar for its own success and for the success of all who depend on it.”
