Lane to hold free breastfeeding class

Lane will be holding a free breastfeeding class from, 10 a.m. to noon, May 18 in the Board Conference Room at Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., Zachary.

Kiara Carnes, RN, IBCLC, with Baby Lane Labor & Delivery Unit will the discuss the ABC’s of Breastfeeding, including:

• Appeal of breastfeeding and why it’s important

• Best breastfeeding positions

• Common challenges with breastfeeding

Carnes will be available to answer questions about breastfeeding.

Donate formal dresses

The Slaughter Civic Club is holding a dress drive, asking people to donate formal dresses for bridesmaids, prom or homecoming. The dresses will be sold at the Back to School Bash: long for $50 and short for $25. Money goes toward the beautification of the town, festivals and other community activities. Dresses can be dropped off at Town Hall on May 20 and June 11 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. or contact Delaney at (225) 301-5734 or Adele at (225) 931-2470 for a special drop off. 

Nominate businesses that look great

Zachary needs people to nominate businesses for the Zachary Beautification Business Awards.

The committee aims to acknowledge business owners within the city who have demonstrated efforts to maintain, repair, enhance and elevate the visual appeal of their properties. Two categories are available: Landscaping and architectural. People can nominate for one category or both. Visit forms.office.com/r/Sxa3Z0Wsx6.

Live music coming

Downtown Live at the Gazebo will feature Pants Party on June 7. The free event is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Virginia Street in Zachary. 

Upcoming library events

Get ready for East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s 2024 Summer Reading Program, "Adventure Begins at Your Library." It will start June 1 and run through Aug. 15, with free programs, workshops, story times, concerts and performances for all ages. Learn more at www.ebrpl.com/summerreading.

  • ZHS Wrestling: June 17-20, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., ages 6-14, cost, $125 per wrestler; siblings get a $25 discount
  • ZHS Baseball: June 10-13, 9 a.m.-noon, 5-14 years old, $120
  • ZHS Agriculture Camp: July 15-19, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 5-10 years old, $150
  • Lady Broncos Volley/Basketball: June 10-12, kindergarten-seventh grade, $110 for one or $200 for both. Volleyball: 8 a.m.-11 a.m./Basketball: noon-2 p.m.
  • Cross-country: June 24-27, first-sixth grade, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m., $100
