Career and resource fair at the library

The library in Gonzales is holding a career and resource fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7.

Explore education and career opportunities with businesses from Ascension Parish and surrounding communities. Discuss available positions and application processes with organizations like Ascension Parish Government, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Department of State Civil Service, Kelly Education, Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, BASF Corporation, Rouses Markets, Waffle House, FedEx Ground, PMI Energy Services, Acadian Ambulance and many others. Some may be looking to make immediate hires.

Attendees are encouraged to dress for success and bring copies of their resumes, as some businesses may conduct on-the-spot interviews.

Jelly Junction

Get ready for a delicious journey combining fun, learning and a dash of sweetness. For this culinary adventure on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. at the library in Gonzales, you’ll make grape jelly with directions from Ascension Parish Master Gardener Ora Jones. It’ll be a fun way to learn the science of what happens when fruit, sugar, and heat combine. Cooking together fosters teamwork and communication, creating bonds and lasting memories with newfound friends. Each attendee will take home the jelly they prepare and some cucumber seeds to start a small home garden.

Voices of Resilience

Every day, we hear news about how opioids affect the community we live in. The Louisiana Department of Health hopes to spread hope through its Voices of Resilience program. On Thursday, May 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the library in Gonzales, hear from survivors of overdose, those in recovery, and health care providers who work to prevent prescription drug misuse and promote safe medication practices in our homes and communities. Trudy Wickham, opioid prevention outreach coordinator with the Louisiana Department of Health, will lead the discussion.

Mark your calendar for some event dates coming to Donaldsonville in the next few months.

A car show May 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. is planned at Louisiana Square. A band is set to perform.

Crescent Park will feature a Wing Fest June 1 from noon to 9 p.m. with a band planned and the city's Fireworks on the River will fill the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 3.

Mimosas on the Mississippi is planned for the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 4.

Breast cancer screenings in Gonzales

Woman’s Hospital brings breast imaging to Ascension Parish May 6 with its mobile mammography coach. The coach makes mammograms more accessible than ever offering advanced 3D mammogram technology at convenient times and locations across Louisiana. The VFW jambalaya cookoff and spring vendor show are set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 at the VFW hall at 12130 Churchpoint Road, Gonzales.
