It was the rifle Gen. George Patton said won World War II — the M1 Garand.
If you want to see several of the top Garand shooters in south Louisiana, then head to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Range next Sunday for the monthly Southwest Louisiana Highpower Club’s match.
The GSMM is on the list. It’s a special Garand match for members. You should bring ear protection. The range is in Gonzales on St. Landry Road off La. 30 and across the road from the Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
The M1 Garand is a 30.06-caliber, 8-round, clip-fed firearm used by millions of U.S. infantry from the early 1940s through the 1950s.
The GSMM is a sanctioned national Civilian Marksmanship Program match.
The Palo Alto Range, located south of Donaldsonville, has scheduled an 80-round match Saturday.
