A GoFundMe account that was set up to cover the funeral expenses for local musician Chris Stafford, who died Thursday in a car crash on Pinhook Road, has already raised more than $40,000.

The sudden death of the 36-year-old , who was a pivotal figure in the Acadiana music scene, has left friends, family, and fans heartbroken and grieving.

Funds raised will go to his brother Mike Stafford, according to Wilson Savoy, who created the page. The aim is to not only to fund funeral services but also manage the ongoing expenses of his music studio and set up an endowment in his honor.

"Chris has given so much to the world by sharing his talents for so little compensation in return; he has touched and inspired so many people with his music," Savoy wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Now it's time for us to give back."

Funeral services for Stafford are scheduled for Sunday, with details to come.
