KADN let go of five employees Tuesday as part of a companywide round of layoffs among Allen Media Group properties across the country.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the five employees worked part time in production. No on-air staffers were let go.

News of layoffs at other Allen properties included higher-ranking staffers, including a sports director who was let go at Indiana-based KTHI after being hired in 2009. Others at the station were also let go, one report indicated.

Cuts at TheGrio, Allen’s multiplatform media outlet catering to Black Americans, reportedly included the site's managing editor’s position. Reports first circulated last week that layoffs were imminent at company properties.

The Lafayette station, which announced the hiring longtime KATC news anchors Marcelle Fontenot and Jim Hummel in November, has had increases in revenue and ratings so far this year, the source indicated.

Allen Media Group, which is led by comedian Byron Allen, bought the Lafayette station in 2019.
