Exhibits at Glassell

LSU School of Art's 2024 Masters of Fine Arts' thesis exhibitions continue at Glassell Gallery, Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St., with shows running through May 17. This year, the School of Art expects to graduate one graphic design candidate and five studio arts candidates, who specialized in each of studio arts' five areas: photography, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and painting. Each studio arts candidate will have a solo exhibition downtown at LSU School of Art's Glassell Gallery.

  • Photographer Emily Rena Williams' exhibition, "Infinite Poem" will be on view at Glassell Gallery March 19–28 with a closing reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 28. Williams will give a gallery talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24.
  • Ceramic artist Matt Jones' exhibition, "Veneers & Vignettes: Staging the Mountain West," will be on view at Glassell Gallery April 5–12 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 6. The artist will give a gallery talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7.
  • Sculptor Cecelia Moseley's exhibition, "Overlay: Language Uncovered," will be on view at Glassell Gallery from April 17–25 with a reception at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 20. The artist will give a gallery talk at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 21.
  • Printmaker Cameron Savage's exhibition, "Silence After," will be on view at Glassell Gallery May 1–9 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The artist will lead a printmaking demonstration at 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5.
  • Painter Joelle Nagy's exhibition, "Családi," will be on view at Glassell Gallery from May 15–22 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17.

Gregorian

Tickets are on sale for Gregorian, a German band headed by Frank Peterson that performs Gregorian chant-inspired versions of modern pop and rock songs, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

In Pointe Coupee

The deadline is April 19 for submissions to the Arts Council of Pointe Coupee's 14th "Treasures of Pointe Coupee" exhibit opening May 31 in the Poydras Center, 500 W. Main St., New Roads. "Treasures" showcases original artwork by local and regional artists who submit two- and three-dimensional pieces.

This year's curator is Brandon Surtain, a native New Orleanian who attended graduate school at Tulane University, where he received master's of architecture and master’s of sustainable real estate development degrees. He received his bachelor of fine art from LSU, with a concentration in painting and drawing. He also was a member of the LSU football team.

Jazz fundraiser

'Art Flow' submissions

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is calling for submissions for its biennial "Art Flow," the Capital City’s premiere juried exhibit of works by visual artists throughout the arts council's 11-parish area. Entries inspired by the phrase "No Place Like Home" are encouraged to be both literal and metaphorical.

The deadline for submissions is March 27, with selection notification March 29. The exhibit will run April 5 to May 15 in the Shell Gallery at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St.

At Cité des Arts

Auditions for Cité des Arts’ Fall production, James Goldman's "The Lion in Winter," directed by Joe Riehl, will be from 11:30 a.m to 3 p.m. April 6-7 at Cité des Arts, 109 Vine Street in downtown Lafayette.
