The Louisiana State Capitol is seen in the distance from River Road near Skip Bertman Drive, Thursday, March 28, 2024, in Baton Rouge, La.

Here is why I question Gov. Jeff Landry being a fiscally responsible leader. One month into his term and he proposes to give all senior cabinet secretaries raises of about $50,000. The individuals were not in office long enough to even evaluate their performance.

He spent approximately $15 million to send national guard members to Texas to protect the border and initially would not accept the federal aid program for the summer student lunch program.

He canceled numerous prison reforms that were implemented to save money that will now cost taxpayers an unknown amount of money. He supports private school vouchers that are estimated to cost taxpayers approximately $250 million to $500 million, while taking away money from the public school system. He is attempting to take control of New Orleans governmental functions.

In addition, he favored manipulation of the primary system to ensure he can dictate the candidates running for office.

The lead lobbyist for the insurance industry is now the person that is responsible for seeing that the citizens get a fair deal from the insurance companies.

Just a few of my thoughts into this very short period of time that our governor has been in office.
